Utility Billing Clerk

Under administrative direction of the City Administrator and City Clerk, the Deputy Clerk/Utility Billing Clerk performs duties providing information and assistance to persons calling or entering City Hall. Performs data entry, filing and other clerical duties. Prepares monthly utility bills, receives payment for utility bills and maintains utility records, including deposit information. Monitors accounts receivable and pursues past due accounts. Maintains cemetery records. Maintains golf cart and pet permits.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•Ability to handle duties involving fingering, grasping, hearing, kneeling, reaching, talking, repetitive motions, sitting for long periods of time.

•Ability to handle sedentary work exerting up to ten pounds (10 lbs.) of force occasionally and/or minimal amounts of force frequently or constantly to carry, lift, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.

•Work is performed primarily in an office environment. The job may require the employee to handle confidential data, significant work pace pressure, unpleasant social situations, and visual strain.

•Knowledge of general purpose office equipment and supplies, cash drawer, Code of Ordinances, copier, fax machine, instructional manuals, policy manuals, printer, and telephone.

•Knowledge of municipal government procedures and policy or ability to learn.

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

•Excellent bookkeeping and filing skills.

•Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.

•Excellent keyboard skills.

•Ability to use computers and various types of software.

•Comprehensive knowledge of the principle, practices and methods of accounting and billing.

•Ability to communicate effectively with the general public.

•Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with supervisors and co-workers.

•A minimum of a two-year degree in accounting or business management or equivalent work experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
