Research Scientist II



Assists in developing & implementing a research agenda which integrates research in learning sciences, assessment design, analytics, measurement, educational data mining, & technological innovations. Designs, develops, & collects evidence to realize potential of games & digital learning experiences for engagement, learning & assessment across wide spectrum (e.g., academic subject level assessments, general cognitive skills, behaviors, & interests) using principled assessment design perspective in collaboration with Research staff. Works closely with external partners for joint projects that advance work in digital, technology rich learning and assessment tools. Creates & applies approaches to assessment design & data analysis, ensuring accuracy, utility, & accessibility of interpretations. Applies data mining & learning analytic techniques & traditional statistical models to investigate, identify, & confirm relevant patterns of performance within games & other technology rich environments to support inferences about learners' cognitive, behavioral, & navigation skills. Investigates & evaluates novel approaches to working with telemetry from game-based & interactive digital assessments & learning tools to incorporate approaches & grow skill base. Participates in national & international research & scholarly contributions through research, publications, presentations, & partnerships. Requires PhD in data or learning sciences, or closely reltd field with 3 yrs of exp (gained before or after completing degree) in develpmt, application, & publishing of data mining & learning analytic techniques that includes knowledge of Evidence Centered Design, basic psychometrics, & research design; experience in learning progressions, learning sciences, &/or game-based learning & in handling telemetry data (including developing processes for cleaning & aggregating data on student level); expertise in data analytics (including data mining, learning analytics, & statistical modeling); & research expertise in data sciences, learning sciences, or reltd field.
